Alizée - Une Enfant du Siecle a year later...

Alizée - Une Enfant du Siecle a year later...

I enjoyed the article from Charts in France but I feel they stopped short regarding the subject of Une Enfant du Siecle.

Over the past year we have read the theory that it was too mainstream for some and not mainstream for others and thus fell between the cracks. I agree with this theory but I am going to address more then the style of music.

When UEDS first came on our radar it was always emphasized as a collaboration with Chateau Marmont, Rob, Tahiti Boy, Para One, Tacteel... The hidden egg was video of Chateau Marmont. It was almost as if it was them and Alizée, which in a way it was. It was almost as if it was a duet situation. The album was not just Alizée!

Have you made note that there has not been one live performance of any song from UEDS with the collaborators. This album has been made and now you can't perform it by the artist that made it. They have separate careers to manage. What an anchor for promoting an album! Noam Chomsky is famous for the saying "manufacturing consent" There was no opportunity to create excitement or manufacture consent to help boost sales.

Chateau Marmont is very unique, do you want to recreate that with studio musicians? Perhaps some day but not as the promotion for this album that boasts their inclusion.

Could Daft tour without Punk? (you know what I mean) No! The same here. This duet (and more) was created but... it appears they could not tour together, their careers had different directions.

Maybe the album did fall between the cracks but with out any promotion by all the originators what chance did it have. It was left out there all alone.

Now lets work on a little "ah ha" moment.
What to do, what to do???
How to promote without having the team, the other side of the duet?
There is a guy that does it successfully. It's really not fair to compare but it is the basic model that was tried.

Do you remember when we were all scratching our heads thinking what is going on?
It was DJ Alizée

and who is it that is a monster success at touring and promoting without his collaborators present?

David pulls it off, he does not need to The Black Eyed Peas to be there for him to rock out on tour with I've Got a Feeling... ah ha, that's what that was about.
I told you it was not a fair comparison with David Guetta but you get the idea. Could Alizée actually tour without "them". For whatever reason that project was not continued but maybe we have a little bit more of an understanding of what was going on.

So there you go, no song ever performed live by the actual performers and there was an attempt to produce something without them.

New album... create a band to tour and promote.
It was fun, it was unique but just too difficult to synchronize careers.

That's my thoughts one year later.
Alizée... was I able to pick that up telepathically or am just crazy? :)
