Alizee 101 - Happy Accident
Something that comes up now and again is the spelling of the song Veni Vedi Vici.
That song is always at the top of the searches that find this humble site. It somehow has popularity and power that is rarely talked about. I would certainly like to see Alizee reintroduce it. But the question I get is why do I spell it Veni Vidi Vici or that I am spelling it wrong. The controversy is the I or E as the second letter in...the second word shall we say.
Yes, the song spells it VEDI.
I have referenced this song various times in posts.

So why did I choose to post the "I"? One word, marketing.
Wikipedia uses VIDI. Let us just say it is the Anglo version. Here at Alizee Nation I try to introduce as many new fans to Alizee as I can, it is Alizee 101. I use post titles that may pop up on someones search in hopes they stumble across Alizee, creating a Happy Accident. I decided VIDI would attract more Happy Accidents. If the reader wants to move on to more sophisticated sites to find the drummers middle name they may and that would be great. For here, it is a matter of getting Alizee noticed. For example, maybe, just maybe someone just now found this by searching for the movie 'Happy Accident'. Working the six degrees of separation my friend, that's all.
There really is some method to the madness.
So...yes the song is titled Veni Vedi Vici on your cd but I wonder how many became aware of Alizee through the use of Vidi?
Again, why is it VEDI, oh we did not say did we...anybody, anybody...Beuller?

Alizee - MSN Entertainment Poll
This MSN Entertainment Poll is a bit intriguing to me. I participate in polls and such more then most, do my part but not a fanatic about it. This poll has a bit of a twist that caught my attention.
The twist is, it is a percentage poll and you can vote people "out". It is not the number of votes that count. That explains how people shoot up from nowhere and then drop like a rock.
For Example. Person A may have 1000 total votes, 600 'in', 400 'out' for 60%. Person B has only 100 total votes but 65 'in' and 35 'out' for 65% and jumps up the scale. Then some 'out' votes roll in, due to the low total vote count it does not take many votes to influence the percentage and thus drops like a rock.
It falls into that category of the figures don't like but liars can figure. I must assume that they require a minimal amount of total votes to qualify but please, no assume lectures, when you assume you make an ass out of u and me, ass-u-me. Can you imagine having an election where you can vote against someone? and the percentage would win. An interesting twist.
On the voting. Is it real? I am not sure. In the beginning, and that reminds me, when does it end??? In the beginning you could easily change Alizee's percentage. Due to the increasing total for her it is getting harder and harder to move that percentage.
What I have found...I set up a macro (a program that repeats your keystrokes) to vote for Alizee to see what would happen. Yesterday I ran it twice, I would be away from my computer and let it run. It ran twice for 2,000 votes both times. Total of 4,000 votes. Alizee went from 70% to 72%. That is all! Is it counting each vote...I think so. An interesting note in between running the macro. After the first run of 2,000 Alizee went from 70% to 71%, as I was playing around with it, throwing in a couple of manual votes...it dropped back to 70%...what? I quickly started voting thinking it was right on that percentage point and I could quickly get it back. I could not. That seemed a bit odd to me. So knowing I would be off the computer for a while I then set up the second run of 2,000 and it ended up back at 72%.
Some have questioned the validity of the poll, well I have my reservations about it also. Will it be ongoing or have an end date, I could not find that.
But it sure was interesting to me, a poll where you can cast a negative vote and percentage wins. Can you imagine having 60,000 votes and losing to someone that has 6,000 votes. What do I know...but numbers are fun for me.
This weekend is the NBA All Star Game. You could vote for players to start. You could vote early, you could vote often but you could not vote a player out, you could only vote them in.
I wonder if this is a culture difference thing....

So, the song Moi...Lolita had two major themes.
One was the continuation of the ye-ye tradition of young female singers in France. One of the originals, France Gall, labeled by Serge Gainsbourg as the French Lolita.
Second is the phrase "C'est pas ma faute", (it's not my fault). According to Polly Platt, a concept ingrained in French society.

Trying to Understand French Culture
In the ongoing effort on my part to understand Alizee I have been reading the book 'French or Foe' by Polly Platt and sharing some parts of the book. Today is honor and doing business in France.
"French people like to deal with people they know."
"Us is only family, close friends, classmates and old faithful customers."
"French people are concerned about personal honor, the honor of France, and the honor of their family and friends and the honor of their long term customers."
"You aren't part of that club. There's no rule of honor, implicit or explicit, that says they have to sell or do any kind of business with you, an unknown foreigner, much less accommodate your outlandish request."
Remember there is no right or wrong in all this, it is all about understanding a different culture.
Perhaps some of the book generalizes too much, but it may have to at times to gain our attention to get us to rethink the situation and realize there maybe more then just a language difference.
And it is my humble opinion that Alizee pulled off the Lolita roll with honor.

Alizee and French culture
French culture has been observed over the years by Polly Platt. Her information has been used by world wide corporations to help personnel adapt to the nuances of French life.
Cultures have different ways to respond to different events. Personal space for example, Americans about a yard of space, Latins half...
There is no right or wrong just differences we should be aware of.

Alizee is like a favorite local hardware, computer store or even restaurant. You love it there. They have things you like, the layout is comfortable and you could spend hours there. You like the person or persons that run it, they add the human touch and they do alright making a living. You think to yourself if only they had a better web presence, if only they had another store in the busier area of town or in another town... Look at Home Depot, Best Buy or any major restaurant chain, they are big and have updated web sites and advertise...what if...
Ah, but I like my niche store the way it is. Would I really like a bigger, better (?) homogenized product. It can be a tough go at times surviving as an artist and a fan, it's not for everyone.
Think about it the next time you are in the matrix known as Best Buy or Home Depot. Do we really want 'the one' caught up in all that? Do you want to be caught up in all that?
What do you want? It will be a tough go of it fighting off these corporate machines, sometimes being out there on your own. Some do choose to be re assimilated, others carry on.
What say you?

So what did you think of that last article? This is why being an Alizee fan is so interesting.
You are a star and you want to get out news of a new song in Spanish, you want to mention possibilities of visiting other countries and you do it through a newspaper half way around the world.
How about right in the middle of talking about Mexico, Latin America, Chile and Argentina...How many times have you been to Australia? What? Huh?
This is a fun riddle for sure.
Why not release information through more conventional channels?
If you had to pick the next two countries to appear in would it have been Chile and Argentina?
Why this out of place Australia statement? And you have been there 4 or 5 times already, when? What are you trying to tell us?
What I see is that this is going to be normal for Alizee. An official announcement through official channels I will look upon as abnormal.
Countries willing to support her with minimal intrusion on her privacy and minimal paparazzi appear to be the locations of choice. They will allow her to perform and earn a nice living with minimal personal intrusions.
The Australian statement, I have my ideas how about you.

Alizee - MSN Entertainment Poll
My latest check has Alizee at #5 and at 66%
Now I know in this age of win and everyone else loses, I feel this is impressive. Really! It is MSN France and there has not been a lot going on in France. Les Enfoires, a few television appearances over the last year and that is it and she is sitting at #5, wow, I am surprised. That is all the groups combined, actors, singers... Take a look at who she is ahead of! In the singer category Alizee is currently tied for 2nd.
For example, Alizee is currently ahead of Rihanna.
Rihanna (wikipedia): Rihanna has five Billboard Hot 100 number ones hits both as a lead artist thus far ("SOS", "Umbrella", "Take a Bow", and "Disturbia"), as well as T.I.'s "Live Your Life", on which she is featured. Alizee - Alizee America
Today a group from Alizee America hosted their second chat party. An Alizee video is viewed in the comfort of your own home while having a live online chat about the video while it is playing.
I think it is absolutely terrific. Sharing thoughts, comments and information with other like minded individuals. There are a lot of keys to making this work but the final wild card is chat etiquette. The entire group seems to understand this point and they make it work and flow with ease.
If you are a newbie or shy that is no problem. The courtesy of the group allows everyone to participate or can just listen. It's fun to listen to comments from participants that were actually at some of these events. I recommend this to anyone. Alizee can be proud of this fan group.
What about me? Well, errr, ahhh...they must think I am a knucklehead. I really want to experience this live, but I am running behind and in this recession you just can not blow people off. Beautiful 80 degree F day, people are saying sit down let's talk, why are you in such a hurry. I really don't want to say I want to run home and watch a concert on DVD and discuss it with an internet chat group. So, I get home at least 45 minutes late. I have to fire up the DVD and push it ahead 40 minutes thinking the group took 5 minutes to start. Then get the computer on line and sign on to the server (which I did not read the instructions ahead of time). All this is getting accomplished and...I still am having a phone conversations. The DVD is turned down, I can hear the conversation going on in the chat session. In between I get a chance to type a message. I thought that was a good idea, but the courtesy of the group invite me to enter into the conversation and I can't get off the phone! Duh...I am a knucklehead. Finally, I am done and last song is just ending but I know Ruroshen is going to publish this and I don't want to interrupt the flow with my little story. So there, if I can go on do that, the rest of you have nothing to worry about. :)
Coachella Festival
I had mentioned the Coachella Festival in previous post and here is a follow up. The line up for this years 'fest' has just been released. No, sadly there is no Alizee. It is a three day event April 17, 18 and 19. I counted 78 booked acts.
Paul McCartney is the biggest name and playing on day one.
Day two has Amy Winehouse and a group Alizee liked, The Killers.
Day three has The Cure.

Capturing Alizee
I found myself being caught up in Alizee (again). With new pictures and videos from Les Enfoires showing up, the Alizee America online live review of En Concert and another in the making I get caught up thinking about Alizee and her career way too much.
I also started to review the instant-mag2 interview again...then I found the same thing going on at Alizee America. Interesting. As 'Roman' put it "One just wishes she had the energy and stamina to push hard without becoming unbalanced and miserable".
At times we resemble those 'sports parents'. The ones that push their children into the sport, act unreasonable on the side lines and care more about the outcome then the children. The parents see the next Michael Jordon...if they would only work harder at it. Please let us not become that for Alizee.
Alizee is our Ghost Orchid flower. Not to be removed or cultivated but to be admired and adored.
Alizee's career is like watching the movie Titanic. Kate Winslet's character makes all the wrong decisions regarding the business of her life but follows her heart like Alizee...marriage, a child, tattoos, time off, going off on her own... Yes it is a chick flick and we guys just shake our collective heads. For us it is a matter of accepting and not understanding.
So, before I start to get wrapped up into what Alizee is going to do next, take a deep breath and back away from the computer. Just relax and enjoy the only way one can capture Alizee, through the latest pics at Les Enfoires.

Sometimes I feel we (I said we) Alizee fans are like a pack of wolves. When food is scarce we hunt all over the place and can even get a little...irritable about it. When the food is plenty it is a wonderful thing.

Alizee - France
Sitting down tonight to see what it going on in the world and I take a look at the blog and...what is going on? France is hitting the blog hard. A quick look shows 19 out of the last 40 are from France. Taking a look at the map show 48% of the visitors are coming from France. Les Enfoires or not I did not expect it. 
It is only appropriate with President Obama now sworn in and today Hillary Clinton took charge of the State Department on Thursday, proclaiming the start of a new era of robust U.S. diplomacy to tackle the world's crises and improve America's standing abroad.
They do their part...and I will do my part.

Making it in the USA
It is a constant subject of North American forums. What does it take? We just watched Yelle hit the North America with a concert tour. Not bad.
And then there is BoA. BoA is from Korea, she has had #1 hits there and then took on Japan and did the same there. Now she is taking on the United States. First she moved to Los Angeles. Then she released the "Eat You Up" single in November 2008. She has been performing in Los Angeles and New York going coast to coast.

and a free lance one the cracks me up, a Polish website about a Korean singer taking on America. Only on the net.
So she is pushing one song right now, moved to America, jumping coast to coast and most important, a real internet presence.
3 months after the release of the single..."Eat You Up" hit #12 on Billboards 'Hot Dance Club Play'.
What was the most important aspect of this blitz on America? The artist, the song, the live concerts, moving to Los Angeles, the promotions. The internet ties it all together. It is the source of information. One item can not live with out the other but the internet presence has to be strong. Learn from President Obama, he had the best internet presence out of everyone he ran against.
So, can you see Alizee doing all that BoA did to get to #12? Could she get there by only releasing her music to America and not doing the rest? I only bring this up and make these comparisons so we may have realistic goals and expectations.
What can we do? You may say we do not or should not have to do anything. True, but as a marketing experiment, what could you do?
What can a fan do to make the Artist more popular without the help of the Artist? Now that is the million dollar question. That my friends is the challenge, and on a shoe string budget. A challenge to me, to you, to Alizee America, to Lily Town USA, to my SkyRock friends.
In the book "The Tipping Point" it discusses how epidemics or fads start. How did the shoes Hush Puppies go from nearly dead and out of business in 1995 at 430,000 pair to 4 times that many the following year? It became a fad, people started wearing them because no one else would. It is the little things that make a difference, nothing the Hush Puppy company did.
So what are we going to do tonight aw? The same thing we do every night, try to take over the world. (paraphrase from Pinky and the Brain)
Who is my favorite artist? Alizee...no matter what.
Alizee America - En Concert - Commentary
Alizee America did a fan commentary of the En Concert DVD. It is available via podcast.
I listened to the entire broadcast and was impressed. First it is extremely difficult to not have everyone talk over each other, well done everyone. Second, the knowledge and information everyone has is impressive.
It is fun to hear what others like and notice. For example Alizee's interaction with band members, I never gave it a second thought, the group mentioned it several times. That is only one little example, jump in and check it out.

The rare Ghost Orchid. One was found growing on an old cypress tree at Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in Florida in 2007. This type of flower is very rare, and it is in bloom for the second consecutive summer. Flower enthusiast will take off at the drop of a hat to see the rare bloom.

Alizee Fans
Alizee fans have done it again. This past weekend a group of fans got together online for what appears to have been a great time. The event was the brainchild Ruroshen starting from an Alizee America forum. Comments are very positive for the event. What impresses me the most was the incorporation of all the fans involved. Fans without the DVD, fans without mics all still enjoyed being involved and commented on how much they enjoyed it. This should encourage even more participation for future events, even to just have fun listening in.
Being an Alizee fan is something like a hobby, similar to coin or stamp collecting. To find that rare coin, the story behind it, your story in getting into the hobby and then finding it, it becomes great story lines between collectors. Non collectors...well they just don't get it.
Alizee fans also generate more self made videos then any other artist that I have come across. The limited amount of appearances ignites that spark for more. At first they had limited appeal to me, but over time I gained an appreciation for the fans self expression. Not everyone is a musician or has top notch video programs but they still express themselves as best they can. But speaking of musicians here is the latest from Lefty

Thanks again to the blog French Word Of The Day.
Polly Platt was an American Author who lived in Paris. She was known for her books, "French or Foe", "Savoir Flair" and "Love a la francaise". Through her humorous writings she has attempted to teach us how to understand French Culture.
I can't help but think we can all learn to understand Alizee more through Polly's books. Everyday I see posts on how you do not understand Alizee and what you want from her and how incredibly frustrated you are and in turn those comments maybe interpreted as incredibly rude. Not because anyone is trying to be rude but due to cultural differences. It is unfortunate that it took Polly's recent passing to inspire a post.
We should all remember when we question Alizee's career.

Alizee - The Da Vinci Code
Has anyone else ever noticed all the leaning in pictures with Alizee
Dan Browns book "The Da Vinci Code" discusses Da Vinci's painting "The Last Supper" and the purpose of all the leaning and angles and the interpretation of the meaning of the Holy Grail.
The absence of a chalice in the painting supposedly indicates that Leonardo knew that Mary Magdalene was actually the Holy Grail (the bearer of Jesus' blood). This is said to be reinforced by the letter "V" that is created with the bodily positions of Jesus and Mary, as "V" is the symbol for the sacred feminine. Also, if you move John/Mary to left of Jesus, you will see his/her head fits perfectly onto Jesus' shoulder, as if to affectionately lay that head on his shoulder. The Old French expression for the Holy Grail, San gréal, actually is a play on Sang réal, which literally means "royal blood" in Old French. (wikipedia)

Eurovision 2009
Since the majority of visitors are from Europe it would be great if any of you want to share your thoughts.
Eurovision is just so fascinating. The 2009 battle has begun. It will be held in May in Moscow this year.
There is a song out of Spain by Yulia Valentayn called "Uh la la". Oikotimes.com described it an article like this: "The song has some modern sounds, very similar to those of Alizee." I agree. Here it is, it is sung in Russian along with an English version.

Les Enfoires
I know we hope to see Alizee soon in Les Enfoires. With Les Enfoires 2009 just around the corner, it would be a good time to take a look at what Les Enfoires is.
First, 'Les Enfoires' is French for 'The Dumbasses'. So from the title of this post to here I said dumbasses 5 times.
Short version, money raised by the concerts records are donated to Les Restos du Cœur.
Les Restos du Cœur donates food and hot meals to the needy.
It is a good cause and I did not want it to be overlooked.
A previous post shows Alizee in 2008 and 2002. In the 2008 clip Alizee is just cute and adorable and at the end where she is scooped up and then later put down and everyone is just laughing and having fun...precious.
And all for a good cause.
