Some internet marketing thoughts from Phoenix
Here is a great article about the band Phoenix, their internet marketing thoughts and ideas are superb.
Phoenix article from the BBC
some quotes from the article"
The band have also just made a live mini album Live In Sydney available for free from their website – something that echoes when the band gave away the first track from Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. That move, Mars says, helped the band massively.
a mini album...live!
“It feels like there is a new generation listening to us. There are kids that are on blogs that are aware of us. Whereas before we were stuck with traditional media".
acknowledge and aware of blogs and such
"The record was just done, and we gave away 1901 free on our website and instantly things happened all over the world, even in place where radio wouldn’t play us or places that didn’t know about us."
“It felt like marketing suicide [giving the track away] but people got into it. Then it became this weird phenomenon, and it became the most blogged song. Then more people listen to it."
something similar with Les Collines perhaps...why it hit 1/2 million views?
"And for the first time it felt like we were in control. We were giving away the music the way we wanted it.”
giving up control gave them control
If you enjoyed that one you may enjoy this one from the New York Times.
you have to love this...when asked about lyrics
"I think them in French, but they always come out in English. It’s much easier to sing in English because it seems that all the words are more separate; they don’t have to blend. In French just the way you build a phrase, they all have an effect on each other. So when we write lyrics, my favorite part is when you delete the in-betweens so that it’s almost some sort of weird cryptic form of poetry that doesn’t make sense"
and this article has a nice photo credited to Pascal Teixeira, hmmm... Alizee South Africa are you thinking what I'm thinking...

What a great little article!!!
Google Translator...
"The album of Alizée is in stores. The young Corsican defends a child of the century and its heady single Hills. Yesterday in Paris, she was signing copies on the Champs-Elysees before a crowd of fans love . This morning, she was the guest of Nikos Aliagas in 6 / 9 NRJ. The young woman has revealed some of his habits.
The singer gets up at 6:30 and Annily takes his daughter to school. At just 25, Alizée is already married for 6 years, and mom for nearly 5: "I am a daughter to the old," she said. A tiny woman of character who likes Vanessa Paradis for his journey, the film of Tim Burton and crunches for the debut album by VV Brown. Lady Gaga ? Not really ... in the category singer Provance, Madonna has any admiration.
With her restraint, her calm, her strength of character, not surprising to find great poker player. She plucked all the friends of her husband, Jeremy Chatelain. "To make amends, she accompanied him in his passion for golf: "It's a fan and it's pretty nice when the weather is nice. But I do not understand much, but our daughter is better two of us together! She puts the ball in the hole every time. She had her first club at the age of two years."
And if the girl became a golfer Alizée accomplished? "It is a possibility since he obviously can not count on her to take over: "My daughter sings very wrong!"
Annily celebrate its fifth anniversary on April 29 next. Her portrait, manga, is tattooed on his arm Alizée ...
Look above part of this interview, during which Alizée reveals that famous tattoo! "
Wonderful article.

"My name is Alizée and I present these new songs"
From an article in El Manana
"About 300 people, press and fans of the artist, gathered along the Canal Saint-Martin, the Ephémère Point, one of the trendiest places that appeal to youth in Paris, to attend the presentation of his new album
PARIS .- With his sweet voice and her smile, the only words that the young French singer Alizée spoke before her show last night immediately raised a loud enthusiasm among your audience.
"My name is Alizée and I present these new songs," she said.
About 300 people, press and fans of the artist, gathered along the Canal Saint-Martin, the Ephémère Point, one of the trendiest places that appeal to youth in Paris, to attend the presentation of his new album, Une Enfant du Siècle (A girl of the century).
With a waisted black dress square neck, covered in part by a minicapa, and his head encircled by an elegant gold headdress with beads, the French looked sober, but very chic, with the only change of clothing presented.
In a hazy atmosphere, with white lights, blue and orange, and no musicians who accompany her, Alizée, who occasionally played some keys on a piano at her side, she sang fragments of four songs from her new CD: "Grand Central", "Les Collines", which is subtitled "Never Leaves You," "Limelight" and "A Coeur Fendre."
I like the way the atmosphere was described. Trendy atmosphere, chic appearance but little words and a brief self introduction...deep...mysterious...
Did you read the article about the synth at her side....of course you did not...what...you thought she was going to explain it to us...always leaving us with mysteries and questions...by what she wears, what she does and what she does not say...
Always leaving us wanting more...

Frenchglish
I read a description for Les Collines as being frenchglish. That surprised me. I am not sure I agree with that description. Frenchglish is usually used to describe someone mixing languages within sentences, or for words that have jumped from one language to another. For example, Hello mon ami. Or words as Cul de sac in English or the hated email in French.
So inserting an English line in a French song, or a French line in an English song? Perhaps....why not...I will not fight it...C'est la vie...There, like that, that's frenchglish!
P.S. Did you know: Frenchglish has no wikipedia listing. Wow.

Le Nouveau Rive Gauche
I had some fun on the previous post regarding Alizée's hips... a hip spotting. For one reason or another Alizée does not and is not breaking them out. For example JEAM or performances of L'Alize or even La Isla Bonita. Now this is important! It is not right or wrong! Did you catch that?
It is not know what Alizée's goal is, so to say something is right or something is wrong could be based on a wrong assumption. IF her goal was to sell at all costs...then it would be a mistake. BUT we do not know that.
If you truly enjoy this person Alizée, sit back and enjoy the process. Enjoy this new group that surrounds her, Institubes, Rob, Jean-René Etienne, Lola, and the rest....it is "The New Rive Gauche".
Le Nouveau Rive Gauche
Wikipedia: "Rive Gauche" or "Left Bank" generally refers to the Paris of an earlier era; the Paris of artists, writers and philosophers, including Pablo Picasso, Arthur Rimbaud, Paul Verlaine, Henri Matisse, Jean-Paul Sartre, Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald and dozens of other members of the great artistic community at Montparnasse. The phrase implies a sense of bohemianism and creativity.
So enjoy this "Odyssée", as "Alizée Reflections" refers to it.
You never know, it may even include a hip spotting....
End Note: new phrases today..."hip spotting" and "Le Nouveau Rive Gauche"

Une Enfant Du Siecle - Release
We made it. March 29. It was a long road as a fan and LOTS of work for Alizée. We went from very little information to almost...and I said almost...overload. Magazines, TV, appearances....what fun.
Today at Virgin a pic posted on Alizée's Tumblr...
Maybe someday we will get to cover one of these live events with our own 'gonzo journalism' style in lieu of from Alizee Nation World Headquarters.
After today we will enter into "Post Release" mode and all that entails. The biggest of the post release mode will be concerts...where, how many, what venues, what songs....are you ready for those rumors.

The September Issue
I don't own the documentary "The September Issue", I only rented it. I may have to purchase it. Alizée had her release party last night. A wonderful thing. My latest request from Alizée would be this...somewhere it would be cool if there was some fashion commentary. Something about what you are wearing, whether it's a live event or a photo shoot. I would enjoy it.
There have been comments about what Alizée is wearing, including last nights release party.
Not owning The September Issue I had to rely on memory and then verify my accuracy...always scary.
Having verified it I now refer to Anna Wintour...
Anna Wintour says in the opening scene of The September Issue, "People who don't understand fashion love to mock it. There is something about fashion that makes people nervous."

while the party ensued
thanks to Julien and others
we had something to do
Point Ephemere was rockin
it was a party in mass
the moment of truth
would soon come to pass
the synth she now played
when she sang her new song
it freaked us all out
our minds are now gone!
her fashion still there
she looked cool as a cat
it was Alizée, yes Alizée

NYU Skin Cancer Tee - Marc Jacobs - Alizée
What got me going on this post...I can't remember.
Recall this pic
if you never saw the full T shirt...
It's part of a series of T shirts raising awareness to skin cancer designed by Marc Jacobs.
So if you didn't know, now you do. All proceeds get donated to the NYU cancer instititute.
There are a whole line of different T's. Victoria Beckham, you know...Posh Spice...posed for one version of the T shirt...along with others.
It's for a good cause, you know Alizée instead of just wearing one...you might be able to contribute more....by...well...being on one.
OH YEAH now I remember what got me going on this post....did I mention it was for a good cause...

Alizée - Record.com.mx
Record.com.mx has a nice Alizée article: Alizzé, de Lolita a Femme Fatal
It is nice to get some feed back regarding Alizée in Mexico.
A few points from the article:
It states the new single, Les Collines is third in I tunes sales. Yet one more impressive figure.
"This record is a test class, we'll see if I can touch a new audience" Alizée calls it a test.
According to Alizée: "Wanted something glamorous and sexy without being vulgar. I really like Marc Jacobs or Karl Lagerfeld.'m Quite a fan of Lilly Allen and her collaboration with Chanel
from the article via goolge translator:
" At just 16 years, Alizée became the dream of every man, but the teenager was left behind and now, 25 years, has transformed the image of Lolita fashion that made the world for a femme fatale with her new album 'Une Enfant du Siècle' (A Child of the Century), which marks her musical and personal evolution.
This change, the leap from classical to electronic pop is reflected in his recent music video 'Les Collines (Never Leave You)', the first single from her fourth production.
Her new style was forged with the help of several prominent artists in the music field, like Chateau Marmont, Jérôme Echenoz, Para One, Rob, David Rubato, Tahiti Boy, Jean-René Etienne, Ziotowski Adanowsky and Rebecca, who was not afraid to risk take.
"On the contrary," she said recently Alizée French magazine Tetu, "I understood that it was especially great and I received great support. With 'psychedelic' I started working with different producers and musicians, because I think my career and my life are made of meetings. First I had Mylène Farmer (as producer), then Burgalat, Daniel Darc, and today Institubes.
IN SEARCH OF AUTHENTICITY
After such a young age to become an international pop star and time away from the stage, Alizée risks to realize their desire for independence and develop their own style, so the interpreter of 'Mademoiselle Juliette' joined the company Institubes, known for making great contributions to the French electronic machine in order to generate a new electronic sound and Indie pop oriented.
The album, which was leaked to the network 12 days before launch and will go on sale this March 29, is diverse, yet homogeneous, nostalgic, since it combines several producers and letters come from young designers inspired by writers Baudelaire, Dos Passos or Daho.
"First I met David Rubato, who has been part of Institubes, and I've asked a remix for 'Fifty Sixty', one of the songs on my previous album. I liked the result, a very inspired version of Gainsbourg that I decided to use as if a new theme, and also did a video around it. Of course I met Jean-Rene, Institubes, agree on the idea of a partnership in line with what he had done David Rubato. At first it had to be six titles that would make the transition to a future album, with this idea of prowling around the theme of 'The Factory', by Andy Warhol, and then, with the quality of the items that showed me the mini album became a whole album where each title tells a story and resembles the next, as a novel, "the singer on the selection made by French manufacturers.
GOODBYE, LOLITA ...
Alizée noted that this new production will allow you to prove himself to her fans."This record is a test class, we'll see if I can touch a new audience. Then it is true that I married young and quickly having a child made me grow faster than some young singers.
Part of this change, he admitted, required to acquire a very different look, no longer a teenager. "Wanted something glamorous and sexy without being vulgar. I really like Marc Jacobs or Karl Lagerfeld. I'm Quite a fan of Lilly Allen and her collaboration with Chanel. It is quite fun, because many people tell me I'm the Lilly Allen French. Unless you drink less! druggie I do not drink, is truth."
DEAR IN MEXICO
Her new single has quickly into third place iTunes Mexico, which is known Alizée spoiled, as revealed.
"My history with Mexico since some years ago, when Madonna went to France for the production of the album 'American Life'. There was a broadcast on France 2, where many artists were invited to represent a song of their choice, and I interpreted 'La Isla Bonita'. They were the debuts of the Internet and a fan had the idea to put the video on Youtube and suddenly began to receive letters in Spanish, then phone calls. "
"When I took my third album, 'psychedelic', the Mexican subsidiary of Sony contacted me to eject the disc. Leading to Mexico for the promotion and had nothing to do: all I knew, had amazing fans, did concerts in the states , improbable things. It was madness. "

Confessions of an Alizée addict.
Prologue:
Is there anything more intimidating then a blinking cursor? Before I get too far along on this project I may have to look into changing that. It is as if I am watching a time bomb tick down, you have nothing so far, 10. 9, 8...you still have nothing...
. How long can I continue in the "re-posting war" of 2010? Well, probably forever, set up an RSS to repost, add a comment..."I love it"...and the beat goes on. How many self described witty comments...you know the answer to that one, "I got a million of 'em". I can never compete with Le Nid...frankly I have no inside track of news. What can I do?
So started the idea of "Confessions of an Alizée addict". The names maybe changed at times to protect myself...I mean the innocent. It maybe true it maybe fictional that will be up to you to decide. Hint: consider all hot girlfriend references as true.
Inspired by Rob's Dodecalogue. Perhaps I can do something in chapter form, once a month, once a week...who knows. It may move off site. For those of you that are saying wtf...hey I love you too, Lily Allen has a song you should listen to.
So off we go not knowing where we shall land. Hmmm, that's how they convert Euro's to Dollars on my credit card bill...

Alizée - "electro chic" Pure People
Pure People article.
"electro chic" is from the article :)
Here is the translation....google of course
"The casual Lolita woman became electro-fatal disco sensual, even in the clip that shows her back that foreshadowed at the top with the song The Hills.
Real rainbow sky cool show recent annual Enfoirés, Alizée has quickly taken place in the universe with flavors of mystery, psychedelic (or psychedelic - as his previous album, released in 2007 - to remain in inspiration alizéenne) of soft-light and electro-magnetic vintage it seems to have concocted with the complicity of Chateau Marmont.
After Limelight, the single The Hills takes us for a few days (the single is already available for download) in the ascent of the album A Child of the Century (March 29 Release label Sony / Jive Epic) those whose first two singles to defend both contemporary and heritage acute electro-chic. Culturally candid, in short: a brilliant program.
The leg cleverly anachronistic boys Chateau Marmont, the quartet's flagship brand reference Institubes, materializes in a windfall addictive synthetic in The Hills: After a preamble (projections of low-torque percu) worthy of a soundtrack to cult series moments of intense suspense, the beat explodes, clear, sparkling, in which ricochet wonders analog (synths wrongly forgotten). And the voice of Alizee, timeless, superhuman indeed remarkable sobriety, warmth and innate sensuality. From the top of hills, a voice that packs a chorus tempo doubled and density - rhythmic and melodic sound - simply irresistible.
On screen, to clip the Hills, the girlfriend of Jeremy Chatelain is revealed at last, disturbing heroine, smoky eyes and mouth hallucinogen, a staging hypnotic (fuzzy, overlays, plans, light, photography ...) Sometimes evanescent woman caught in his flight by simulated images Super 8, sometimes ethereal diva in sequined dress, sometimes pin-up disco with spotlights caress the silhouette in the dark.
Alizée: Child of the Century and potentially Woman of the Year.
"
Electro Chic, Woman of the Year....now wait a second...are you telling me that is Jeremy...knock me over with a feather!!!!!
really, is that what you are telling me...
P.S. If anyone can verify a confirm or deny on the identity that would be awesome. Of course I could be misunderstanding a google translation also (likely).
Lil help.
Or Alizée you could just let me know, you know, though your channels....oh wait, no, I changed my mind, don't tell me, I don't want to know (shhhhhhh everyone, reverse psychology, she is so stubborn, never does what she is told to do so it might work)

Alizée - Mainstream
No, this is not going where you think it is going to go...
Where it is not going...is Une Enfant Du Siecle mainstream or mainstream enough, is Alizée mainstream.....
No, I don't want to go there right now. Alizée is going to do what she wants to do and it is what it is...
Now that I wrapped that up in two sentences...let's get to where I want to go with this mainstream subject.
The promotion....have you ever thought about 'a promotion' being mainstream or not mainstream?
Can you have (and I am not saying Alizée is or is not) a performer that is not mainstream, music that is not mainstream but have some promotions that are mainstream. Of course...
At this point in time I think the promotion is well rounded. Just about every aspect of the internet is covered. MySpace, YouTube, Tumbler, Opendisc....depending on the age group those areas may or may not be considered mainstream promotion.
We have also had our string of print publication interviews, very mainstream.
I will assume there will be television promos coming up after the release, very mainstream again.
Photo shoots...that have been...shall we say...interesting!
Personally I think it has been a well organized attack, well balanced. Maintaining those online sites require manpower, it's work.
As always one of the items of promotion that is minimal for an Alizée promotion are public appearances. I do not expect that to change. Some limited signings...but no nightclub snapshots in L.A., N.Y. or Paris...or any of that.
In the past it was so easy to pick apart the promotion or lack of....not so easy to do that up to now...so far so good.
What do you have in store for us next... :)

Alizée - Têtu avril 2010
Têtu avril 2010
Alizée: "Dorothy, Chantal Goya and Helen never evolved with their audience!"
From PurePeople
The google translate thing...
"In less than three weeks will release a child of the century, the highly anticipated fourth album Alizée. Expected because the former protected Mylène Farmer has produced this new album with the prestigious Parisian label Institubes sharp, the group Chateau Marmont in mind. To get an idea of the small revolution is happening here, Alizée has already unveiled the mysterious Limelight and very addictive single hills (Never Leave You).
In the next issue of Tetu magazine for gays and lesbians, Alizée confides at length in an interview. She returns to her meeting with the Institubes artists, his debut with the duo Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat. She says her relationship with the red star and secret and the reasons for his departure.
The first title Alizée sang was a huge tube that she interpreted as embodied. Today the period of Lolita Alizee seems long gone: "I'm from the generation Dorothea, Chantal Goya and Helena, and it's true they have not evolved with their audience and accompany growing up ( ...) Lisztomania break
Just a slight break in the Alizéemania. I am sure Alizée doesn't mind and this is on my mind and must get it out of my system....or is it because I am on the second day of fasting...no matter...
Lisztomania is a song by the often mentioned French band Phoenix.
Kind of cool seeing Public School 22 perform it
was that cool or what?
So what is "Lisztomania"?
A 1975 film starring Roger Daltrey (The Who & Tommy)
But..originally: "The term "Lisztomania" was coined by the German romantic literary figure Heinrich Heine to describe the massive public response to Liszt's virtuosic piano performances. At these performances, there were allegedly screaming women, and the audience was sometimes limited to standing room only." (wikipedia)
Franz Liszt 1859 to 1865? Yes, that Franz Liszt.
"After 1842 "Lisztomania" swept across Europe. The reception Liszt enjoyed as a result can only be described as hysterical. Women fought over his silk handkerchiefs and velvet gloves, which they ripped to shreds as souvenirs. Helping fuel this atmosphere was the artist's mesmeric personality and stage presence. Many witnesses later testified that Liszt's playing raised the mood of audiences to a level of mystical ecstasy" (wikipedia)
"Adding to his reputation was the fact that Liszt gave away much of his proceeds to charity and humanitarian causes. In fact, Liszt had made so much money by his mid-forties that virtually all his performing fees after 1857 went to charity." (wikipedia)
Perhaps that encouraged you to read a little more about Franz Liszt...
Here you can see Phoenix on...

Now back to the newly coined...Alizéemania.

A New Bond Girl
I see 'they' are on the hunt for the newest Bond Girl. I heard on the news that Jennifer Aniston is interested. Nothing against her but...a Bond Girl. Just doesn't fit the part.
India Today has some good information.
They say Freida Pinto, of Slumdog Millionaire fame, has the best chances.
From their article:
"Freida is most likely to get the role with the odds of 3/1, followed by Jennifer Aniston with 4/1 odds. Transformers beauty Megan Fox is being backed at 6/1. Keira Knightley, Jessica Alba and Natalie Portman, Sienna Miller, Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson follow Freida on the list."
Well now...are you thinking what I'm thinking...JBG
At one time Alizée mentioned she had an interest in being a Bond Girl. Was that a whim of a younger Alizée or does that still hold true today at 25?
I do know that an exquisite Corsican beauty works for me!
I don't know if Alizée has an agent, so I guess I have to appoint myself as her unofficial Hollywood agent. Alizee Nation is the name - Alizée is my game.... gonna be coming on strong, staying long, talking loud and drawing a crowd. Got to get on the horn with MGM....What? Alizée I can see you shaking your head from here.

Words and Music
I at times feel that Alizée is headed down one path but fans are headed down another.
While using my GPS there is a route I take where the exit is just a slight angle off the main route and then parallels the main highway, my GPS just does not want to recognize that I am off the mainstream route...is my Alizée GPS working?
In the 'B' movie that I reference occasionally, Eddie and the Cruisers, there is a brief discussion that takes place that just reminds me of Alizée...as if she is talking to me or us.
"What I want is songs that echo. The stuff we’re doing now is like somebody’s bedsheets; spread ‘em out, soil ‘em, ship ‘em out to laundry, you know? But our songs…I want us to be able to fold ourselves up in them forever…understand? That’s the most you’ll ever get out of me Wordman. Ever."

Melody Nelson
Well... you know...I get "these things" in my head and they have to come out somewhere...
Melody Nelson or more accurately, The History of Melody Nelson
Let's just go straight to Wikipedia on this one...
"Melody Nelson is the fictional subject of a concept album, Histoire de Melody Nelson, by French musician Serge Gainsbourg.
Similar in concept to, if not based on, the infamous Vladimir Nabokov novel Lolita, the plot of the album concerns the protagonist's brief relationship with a teenage English girl named Melody Nelson, who he meets when his Rolls-Royce collides with her bicycle. They begin a passionate but short love affair, which ends when Melody dies in a plane crash."
The songs of the album tell a story, not unlike chapters in a book. Is one chapter meant to be greater then any other? or is just part of a story that someone is trying to tell us.
Is Alizée's "Une Enfant du Siecle" about the songs or about a story in songs?
A link to the Histoire de Melody Nelson samples at Amazon.
Was The History of Melody Nelson about any one of Serge Gainsbourg's 7 songs on that album or about the story those 7 songs told.
To anyone who is lucky enough to interview Alizée, this is what I want to hear about.
These thoughts may not be accurate, they may not even be what you want to hear...but perhaps it will make you pause for a moment...

Gorillaz - NPR
First let me say..yes I get a kick out of Gorillaz and it sure will be interesting to what they have to offer at Coachella...with their new album coming out and what the heck they will do because they are the main attraction for that final day...Sunday at Coachella.
But what I really want to focus on is what they are doing....
PLAYER NO LONGER AVAILABLE
and I thought the advance of 30 second samples so early was unusual...guess not.
Truthfully, and aren't I always truthfull, well...most of the time anyway...I really don't understand this trend. I may need another "House" diagnostic episode on this one...sure Alizée you can join in...just make up a name...but not rabbit or ninja or anything like that....K? ;)
